From Desert to Tropical Island : A Backyard Project

Standard

Well I have to say it…… I am THE worst blogger ever.
I dont know many awesome bloggers that go over 6 months without posting something.
So I am creating a belated New Years resolution!
This year I am going to blog more often!!
And Im going to start with my back yard!

Just to be frank…its bone dry. The soil here is rock hard and unless you have unlimited amounts of water (the columbia river might work), grass tends to die here.

By here, I mean Tucson, Arizona.
My hubby and I got lucky enough to be based in this beautiful state.
No sarcasm here! The sunsets look like paintings, the smell of desert sage after a monsoon is a slice of heaven, and the wildlife is absolutely fascinating!

So back to the story at hand!!

My cowboy and I live on the local airforce base, in a nice home, with a decent sized back yard.
Most bases are pretty strict about what you do to your yards, but this base will let you landscape if it improves the value of the home!

So my goal is to take my back yard of rock hard desert dirt and turn it into my own tropical oasis!!

Im posting the before pictures today, and as I do more, I will post more pictures! Hope you guys enjoy!

I’m Never Having Kids. No. Really.

This says it exactly!!!

Kait Ketola Has Things to Say

anigif_enhanced-buzz-16889-1363358307-16

I’m fairly open about private life events. Actually, I’m 99% certain that I seriously overshare private life events. With that said, I’ll just get on with all that oversharing business.

I’m 24 and I got a tubal ligation just over a week ago. In case you’re not hip to what that means, I’ll explain: a doctor got all up in my guts, removed a piece from both of my fallopian tubes, and literally burned that bridge so that little man sperms can’t get to my eggs. In other words, I’m sterile – of my own accord. Kind of extreme, right?

I’ve known that kiddos were not for me since I was about 12 or 13. At that age, it was a lot of grown-ups exchanging amused but knowing smiles. “Oh-hoh, you’ll change your mind!” “Well, not now but when you’re grown up and have a husband…” But every year, without fail…

My Love, My Airman, My Hero

Standard

I am so pleased to say that my husband is officially out of basic training! He made expert marksman and from day 1 they made him a squad leader. His graduation was a very proud moment! Stephen is now onto tech school in Virginia, which will last till mid to late June.
Stephen was blessed with the job he wanted so badly. He is a Crew Chief on a UH-60 (black hawk helicopter). On top of that lucky note, we will be stationed in the southwest, Arizona or Nevada. Both bases we are extremely pleased to get! Its also a blessing because we will be close to family!
The Big Guy upstairs is definitely looking out for us 🙂

On a side note, I’ve acquired some new cookbooks and I’m super excited to grocery shop at the local commissary and share these recipes with you!
As soon as I’m healthy of course.
Yes, yet again I am sick! But on the bright side I get to talk to my husband everyday and that is a cure in itself!

Here are some pictures from Stephen’s graduation! I hope y’all enjoy!

The Long Journey…..

Standard

The wonderful thing about living in the Pacific North West, is the salmon runs. Did you know that some salmon travel 600 miles up river just to end their long journey, dried up on a river bank to be some other critters dinner?   Salmon provide the river systems with tons of nutrients and help improve the lives of other creatures at the end of their long journey.  As an avid fisher-woman, their journey amazes me. So i decided at the end of this salmon season, I would photograph their end. On this trip, I not only managed to capture images of the fish, but I found amazing fall colors, and a dog at play!

My Husband, The Not So Photographer

Standard

I Recently Turned 23 Years Old. This means a few things….Salmon season, Cold and flu season, and Fall colors. Funny enough, I got to experience all of these things on my birthday. On October 5th, I was sporting the worst cold Ive ever had, watching my Dad fish for salmon, and viewing the beautiful colors the trees were turning. I feel i should explain The Cold. When I am sick, I get cabin fever. And on my birthday, I was determined, no matter how sick I was, to get out of the house and do something! So, we went fishing! Well, dad went fishing. I didn’t quite have the energy to wade into freezing water. So I took my guitar and serenaded the fisherman that were lining the riverbank, while my husband, tried to play photographer :).

this one is actually pretty good!
